About

I write about stuffs inspired by my fatherhood, product-development and problem-solving journey. I enjoy the process that comes with each. It’s an inspiration to learn, build and share. In other words, learn and try new things, solve problems, entertain and educate.

I’m the host of the Creatives Across Borders podcast where I explore the intersection of art, culture, and creativity transcending geographical boundaries.

Who is Baba Funke?

DaddyCreates

Adebayo Adegbembo is a creator who likes to scratch his itch. I love reading, writing and making stuffs! Among other things, I develop web apps, interactive story apps and children’s books. I get my thrill from the development process – ideating, learning, programming, sketching, working with co-creators (teachers, authors, designers…).

Being a dad represents a new chapter in my journey. Hence, I’m constantly exploring ideas to optimize my time and skills. That includes taking on and writing about projects that serve to educate and entertain my daughter or promote causes I care about such as cultural inclusivity, self-learning and problem solving. Working on these projects, I learn, try and share how I save whatever time I can from redundant tasks thus affording me more time to spend with my family.

Tools of Trade

Good old physical notepad and Microsoft Word for drafts and sketches. Adobe Illustrator for wireframes. Unity3d and the .Net stack (C# & Asp.Net) for development.

Fun Facts

For as long as I can remember, I love working during the wee hours of the day. While it predates my daddy status, it works for my good considering there aren’t much daddy duties during these odd hours.

Favourite Books

This is a growing list so I’d settle for the most recent impactful ones

  • The Start-Up of You – Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha. This is one book I credit for helping me reinvent my professional career. It’s become my personal gift to young people in my circle who are just getting started in their professional lives or just about anyone seeking to reinvent their professional careers.
  • Rework – Jason Fried. I stumbled upon Rework at a time when I needed to unlearn everything I thought I knew about running a business. Rework taught me how to distil a business on my own terms and against the backdrop of popular opinions. It taught me the essence of being secure about the choice of my business however/whatever I make it out to be in size, scope and style.
  • The Choice – Edith Eger. If you’ve ever been trapped in a cycle of victimhood then this book’s your panacea. It’s the most impactful book that my psyche’s ever come in contact with. Love it!

Favourite Movies

  • Gladiator starring Russel Crowe
  • Training Day starring Denzel Washington
  • Shrek I – can’t get enough of the Donkey played by Eddie Murphy
